D.A.R.E Officer's Message

Dear Friends,

This site is for all, students, families and supporters of our D.A.R.E. program and it is filled with great information to give you a better understanding of our program.

The Suffern Police Department D.A.R.E. Unit was formed in 1993. Since its inception our program has proudly become one of the most active D.A.R.E. units in the region largely due to the great support that we receive from the community.  Our program currently serves over 2,200 students from the Richard P. Connor, Montebello, Viola and Sacred Heart Schools.

Besides teaching the informative and educational D.A.R.E. curriculum to our students we also sponsor many extracurricular activities that teach our students how to have fun and how to fulfill their needs without getting into trouble by using drugs or alcohol. We also promote community service and spirit through these events which have proved to be extremely successful among our students. Some of these events are our annual holiday toy drive in which we collect and distribute toys to local needy families and our annual food drives in which we donate canned goods to a local soup kitchen and food pantry.

The Suffern Police Department  D.A.R.E. program also runs a street hockey league which is open to all 2nd through 12th graders in the Ramapo Central School district. We also conduct   D.A.R.E. barbeques, complete with disc jockeys and games at the Suffern Village Pool, an annual Yankee game trip, and our snow tubing trip 09, 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.

Please take the time to browse our website and learn more about these great programs. To see national D.A.R.E. events click on the "Official D.A.R.E. web site" which is a direct link to " D.A.R.E. America" in California.

We hope you enjoy this site, check it frequently as the news and events will be updated. On behalf of the Suffern Police Department D.A.R.E.. Unit, thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,
Dare Officer James Giannettino

Dare Hockey

The Suffern Police Department DARE Street Hockey League was formed in the winter of 1998. At it's inception, the league consisted of 5th and 6th grade students from the Ramapo Central School District who comprised 6 teams.  After greatly increasing it's registration the league expanded to include both younger and older players who played weekly games at the Suffern Community Center. In September, 2002 the league raised the funds and constructed a street hockey rink on Yorkshire Dr. which still serves as the leagues home up to the present day.  The league currently has a fall division consisting of players in grades 2 through 6 and a spring league consisting of players in grades 6-12.  The games are played in sneakers with players wearing full equipment which is provided by the league. The league has a dedicated volunteer coaching staff  and a team of knowledgable officials.  For further information please call 845-357-DARE Ext .5.
