The Suffern Police Department recently became an officially recognized New York State Accredited Agency. The criteria for receiving this status, which is coordinated by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services, is that department’s must meet 130 operational standards and go through an exhaustive review by New York State Accreditor’s to ensure that they are complying with these standards. Suffern received this distinction in December, 2009 and is one of only 20% of the department’s state wide to receive this distinction. Suffern’s program is coordinated by Lt. John Bonkoski and Sgt.
